About
In 2017 I received a diagnosis of MS. The type of MS I have is Primary Progressive and the amount of lesions in my Brain and Spinal Cord are considered severe.
Initially I experienced fear, frustration and the sickening feeling that there is no known cure according to Western Medicine.
The options you have for MS is Immune Suppressant Therapy that does not cure the disease it only controls the symptoms and this is only 25% effective.
Prior to being diagnosed, God, Universe, Spirit or whatever else you use for the higher good, brought a book into my life. I began to read Medical Medium by Anthony William who has cured thousands from mysterious illnesses. In his book he devotes a section on MS and the cause of this crippling disease. Now I am on a mission to tell my story and help give others hope and a chance to heal.
I still go through moments of fear and worry but it is all overshadowed with possibility.
Travel back a few years with me so you know a little of my active history.
I was not always a 175lb Crossfitter that was on a mission to cure the effects of MS through food. I grew up overweight, picked on and last picked in gym class. Boo hoo it was tough for a 13yr old that loved girls. I did not know what it meant to eat healthy being sucked into to every fad diet, work out routine or weight loss fad that existed. Fast forward 10 years, I graduated from college and grew to a size 40 pant, weighing 255lb, type A on his way to a heart attack.
At 25 my wife told me she was pregnant with our first. I wanted to see my grandchildren and not be the sick fat grandpa. It was at that moment I said enough is enough and I began lifting, running, biking and stopped eating a pizza four nights a week. By the time I was 29 I had raced over 75 triathlons (yes, the math may not work but in some weekends I raced 3). During all of this I made all-american at the Half-Ironman distance.
At 31 in 2008 stressed out at work and angry about the life I was creating, with two kids, I severely injured my spine which paralyzed my right leg. After losing 90% of my muscle mass in the right leg with little hope of recovery I drug my leg into the neuro-surgeons office with a 50% chance that he would paralyze me from the waist down. I moved ahead with the surgery as nothing could be worse than dragging a non-functional limb around.
I limped in and walked out looking at a long recovery with no ability to run like I used too. Two years later and after extreme frustration I signed up for Ironman, yes Ironman (2.4 mile swim/112 mile bike/26.2 mile run) If Ironman did not fix my leg, nothing would and in November of 2011, I crossed the finish line.
This started a new chapter in my life that made me realize that there is always possible.
I have no idea why I have MS but I feel there is a reason.
